Addiction
Harsha Behavioral Center now offers addiction services for adults. Our 20-bed state of the art adult wing not only specializes in addiction services and dual diagnosis, but continues to treat individuals with complex mental health illnesses. At Harsha, we understand the challenges individuals and their loved ones face. Our compassionate and dedicated team of clinicians will help lead them down a road to recovery.
Psychiatric & Clinical
The clinical staff is responsible for primary psychiatric services to all Harsha Behavioral Center patients including treatment of general medical problems. A complete physical exam, medical history, and mental status is completed within 24 hours of admission. The attending physician determines the admission, ongoing, final and discharge diagnosis based on the DSM multi-axial system. The patient’s physician is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and the Medical Director is the clinical leader of the group.
Nursing
Registered nurses complete written assessments of the physical and emotional status of patients. Assessments are completed at the time of admission; ongoing in response to treatment; and/or when there is a significant change in the patient’s status. The nursing division is responsible for the provision of nursing care 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. This responsibility includes assessing, planning of care, and ensuring the safety and general welfare of all patients. Direct care is provided by both licensed RNs, LPN’s and mental health technicians as support staff.
Social
Social Services represent an integral part of the assessment and treatment process. This involves individual and group therapy, family coordination, inter-agency consultation, crisis intervention, discharge and referral planning, and follow-up. Social Service staff assists the patient and family with the transition of admission, provide support and information to the family during the hospitalization phase, and arrange discharge planning.
Dietary
Recommendations are made to the attending physician based on the nutritional assessment. Upon a physician’s order, special diets are prepared and served. Each patient receives well-balanced nutrition that is care planned to reflect and meet their medical and physical needs.
Family Support
An ongoing liaison relationship with the patient’s families, legal representatives or significant others is maintained throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Educational opportunities are provided through treatment planning meetings and family seminars regarding a variety of aspects related to mental illness and discharge planning.

Savera Geriatric Care
The Savera Geriatric Care Unit at Harsha Behavioral Center opened in January 2010 to meet the growing need for psychiatric care for seniors. The older adults are unable to communicate their feelings with caregivers and families, hence the psychiatric condition goes undiagnosed which sometimes results in tragedy.
Our GeroPsych team is composed of highly trained psychiatric nurses, social workers, therapists, a geriatric psychiatrist and other mental health professionals.
Savera is a 21 bed acute care psychiatric inpatient program and accepts patients from 55 and up. Upon admission the patients are assessed by professionals. A customized plan of treatment is developed for each patient and is monitored regularly. The most commonly treated diagnoses include psychotic disorder, mood disorders, i.e. depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, dementia, Alzheimer's, bipolar disorders.
Our primary focus is treatment of the mental health diagnosis, however we have a medical doctor who sees the patient on a daily basis during their stay. In some cases, an undiscovered medical condition may be identified. If the physical need outweighs the psychiatric need, the patients are transferred to a hospital of choice.
The patients are seen by their psychiatrist and therapist daily and we are in close contact with the families during their loved one’s stay. Daily treatment team meetings are held with the interdisciplinary team to assure they are receiving the best care.
Our goal is to stabilize the patient and transfer them back to their home or nursing and facilities where the treatment plan can continue in a less restrictive environment.
Our usual length of stay is 7-14 days or longer if needed.
We maintain constant communication with families and extended care facilities, keeping them informed of the patient’s progress.
Services provided by our Geriatric program may include:
Psychopharmacological evaluation and psychological and brief management neuropsychological assessment
Crisis oriented family therapy and psychological education, caregiver support
Music class
Recreational therapy
Exercise
Pet therapy
We provide discharge planning and collaboration with families and community agencies to facilitate a smooth transition for continued treatment in an outpatient setting.
